Vom Aschbach hinauf in die Felder, am Waldrand entlang durch Wacholderheide und Steppenheidewald ins Naturschutzgebiet Ammerfeld – mit weitem Blick über das Werntal nach Eußenheim. Zum Schluss lohnt ein Besuch der Kirchenburg.
From the Aschbach brook up into open farmland, along the forest edge through juniper heath and steppe-heath woodland into the Ammerfeld nature reserve – with wide views across the Wern Valley towards Eußenheim. Finish with a visit to the fortified church.
Im Frühjahr blühen im Ammerfeld Adonisröschen und Knabenkräuter – und von der Höhe reicht der Blick über das Werntal bis nach Eußenheim.
Am Ortseingang von Aschfeld rechts ab zum Parkplatz. Von dort nach links zwischen Halle und Sportplätzen weiter; am Ende des Zaunes (Basketballfeld) rechts.
Über einen Steg den Aschbach queren und links am Bach entlang. Dem Bachlauf folgen und ihn erneut nach links auf einer kleinen, schönen Steinbrücke überqueren – dann geradeaus in die Mühlgasse.
An der Aschfelder Straße rechts, kurz darauf die Straße überqueren und durch die Ostertalstraße (Weg 18) aus dem Dorf hinaus. Ein langer, gerader, stetig ansteigender Weg – nach dem letzten steilen Stück grüßt die Homburg aus der Ferne.
Wo der Weg 18 in den Wald hineinführt, verlassen Sie ihn und gehen links weiter – zunächst am Waldrand, nach etwa 100 Metern im Wald, immer parallel zum Waldrand. Der Weg führt bergauf und dann einige Zeit am Waldrand entlang.
Bei einer Jagdkanzel verlassen Sie die Felder und treten in einen lichten Wald. An der Wegegabel nehmen Sie den rechten Weg und durchqueren einen interessanten Halbtrockenrasen mit Wacholderbüschen.
Am Ende der freien Fläche trifft von rechts der Weg 19 herein. Ihm folgen Sie durch den Wald und dann im großen Bogen um einen alten Steinbruch. Von der Höhe reicht der Blick über das Werntal nach Eußenheim.
Bald führt der Weg 19 nach rechts und steil bergab durch die Kerztalstraße wieder ins Dorf.
Wer möchte, biegt bei der Hagstraße links ab und besucht die Kirchenburg. Für den Besuch empfehlen wir Ihnen eine Führung – sprechen Sie uns gerne an.
Bei der Maria-Hilf-Kapelle mit Infotafel erreichen Sie wieder die Aschfelder Straße und folgen dem Hinweis zum Parkplatz. Runde geschafft.
Biegen Sie am Ortseingang von Aschfeld rechts ab zum Parkplatz „Bachgrundhalle / Sportplatz“ und stellen Sie Ihr Fahrzeug dort ab. Gehen Sie nach links zwischen Halle und Sportplätzen weiter. Am Ende des Zaunes (Basketballfeld) wandern Sie rechts weiter, überqueren den Aschbach auf einem Steg und nehmen links den Weg am Bach entlang. Folgen Sie dem Bachlauf und überqueren Sie ihn erneut nach links auf einer kleinen, schönen Steinbrücke und gehen Sie dann geradeaus in die Mühlgasse.
Wenn Sie die Aschfelder Straße erreichen, wenden Sie sich nach rechts, überqueren kurz darauf die Straße und wandern durch die Ostertalstraße (Weg 18) aus dem Dorf hinaus in die Felder. Dieser hat sich mit seinen steilen Wänden, Nischen und Spalten zu einem wichtigen Lebensraum für allerlei Vogelarten entwickelt.
Wenn Sie diesen Weg im Frühjahr gehen, sehen Sie viele seltene Pflanzen (Adonisröschen, Knabenkräuter …). Genießen Sie auch den wunderschönen Ausblick über das Werntal auf Eußenheim.

Wacholderheide, Steppenheidewald und ein alter Steinbruch

Turn right at the entrance to Aschfeld and park at the car park. From there head left between the hall and the sports pitches; at the end of the fence (basketball court) turn right.
Cross the Aschbach on a footbridge and continue left along the brook. Follow the water and cross it again to the left on a small, pretty stone bridge – then straight ahead into Mühlgasse.
Turn right onto Aschfelder Straße, cross the road shortly afterwards and leave the village along Ostertalstraße (Trail 18). A long, straight, steadily climbing track – once you have managed the final steep stretch, Homburg Castle greets you in the distance.
Where Trail 18 turns into the woods, leave it and keep left – first along the forest edge, after roughly 100 metres inside the wood, always parallel to its rim. The path climbs and then runs along the edge for a while.
At a hunting stand you leave the fields and enter open woodland. At the fork take the right-hand path and cross an interesting stretch of semi-dry grassland dotted with juniper bushes.
At the end of the open ground, Trail 19 joins from the right. Follow it through the wood and then in a wide arc around a disused quarry. From up here the view stretches across the Wern Valley to Eußenheim.
Trail 19 soon bears right and drops steeply back into the village along Kerztalstraße.
If you like, turn left at Hagstraße and visit the fortified church (Kirchenburg). We recommend taking a guided tour – just ask us about it.
At the Maria-Hilf chapel with its information board you rejoin Aschfelder Straße and follow the sign back to the car park. Circuit complete.
At the entrance to Aschfeld, turn right towards the „Bachgrundhalle / Sportplatz“ car park and leave your car there. Walk left between the hall and the sports pitches. At the end of the fence (basketball court) continue to the right, cross the Aschbach on a footbridge and take the path along the brook to the left. Follow the stream, cross it again to the left on a small, pretty stone bridge, then carry straight on into Mühlgasse.
When you reach Aschfelder Straße, turn right, cross the road shortly afterwards and leave the village along Ostertalstraße (Trail 18) into the fields. It is a long, straight and steadily rising track. Once you have managed the final steep stretch, Homburg Castle greets you in the distance.
Leave Trail 18 at the forest edge, where it turns into the wood, and keep left – at first along the edge, after about 100 metres inside the wood, always parallel to the rim. The path leads uphill and then follows the forest edge for some time.
At a hunting stand you leave the fields and enter open woodland. At the fork take the right-hand path and cross an interesting stretch of semi-dry grassland with juniper bushes.
At the end of this open ground you meet Trail 19 coming in from the right. Follow it straight ahead through the wood at first, then through the Ammerfeld in a wide arc around a disused quarry. With its steep walls, niches and crevices, the quarry has become an important habitat for many bird species.
If you walk this route in spring you will see many rare plants (pheasant’s eye, wild orchids and more). Do take in the beautiful view across the Wern Valley towards Eußenheim as well.
Trail 19 soon takes you to the right and steeply downhill along Kerztalstraße back into the village. If you wish, turn left at Hagstraße and visit the fortified church, for which we recommend a guided tour.
At the Maria-Hilf chapel (information board) you rejoin Aschfelder Straße and follow the sign to the car park.
